Best exterior paint combinations
If you’re starting from scratch building your dream home or just updating a fixer upper, picking exterior paint colors can be a big challenge.
If you’ve never read about exterior colors and the challenges they bring, make sure to hop on over to this post on exterior colors first.
Today’s post is all about exterior paint color combinations that just work. Keep in mind, you must take into consideration your home’s fixed elements before you commit to a neutral color (you can read more about that in this post)
With that said, here are my favorite exterior paint color combinations:
Oyster White + Evergreen Fog
One of the first things you’ll learn about exterior colors is that paint colors brighten up so much outside. Rarely do I recommend an off-white to my clients for an exterior, as it lightens up way too much to be soft. If you want a soft white, try Sherwin Williams Oyster White, which is a greige with a neutral green undertone.
Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams is a darker green-gray, but outside this color lightens up to a cheery sage. Give these two colors a go!
Below, Oyster White is shown on an exterior:
Revere Pewter+Mount Saint Anne
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter has been a mainstay in classic interiors for decades. This pretty greige with a green undertone is a bit to dark for walls for most homeowners tastes, but outside, this color lightens up dramatically.
Below is a picture of Revere Pewter on an exterior:
Benjamin Moore Mount Saint Anne is a gorgeous blue/green hue that pairs with Revere Pewter perfectly. Use Mount Saint Anne as a front door/shutter color on a Revere Pewter house.
Pashmina + Van Courtland Blue
A more medium-toned greige and a perfect color for exteriors is Benjamin Moore Pashmina. I love pairing this pretty greige with Van Courtland Blue, which is a darker blue with just a hint of green. Lovely combination!
See Pashmina below on the doors and window trim:
Ranchwood + Newburyport Blue
Benjamin Moore Ranchwood is a dark taupe that has a very earthy and organic vibe. I love to pair this pretty hue with Benjamin Moore Newbury Port Blue–a deeply saturated navy.
Gray Clouds + Pure White
Searching for that classic blue gray that reminds you of beach homes on Nantucket? Go with Sherwin Williams Gray Clouds. I like to pair this color with Sherwin Wiliams Pure White which is an off-white (lightens up to a true white outdoors).
Oyster White + Fawn Brindle
Sherwin Williams Oyster White is such a pretty paint color for exteriors it’s on this list twice. If you want a soft white/cream exterior, Oyster White is absolutely one to sample. Paired with a darker greige for a tone-on-tone classic look when you go with Sherwin Williams Fawn Brindle for the accent color.
Rockport Gray+ Faded Flaxflower
Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray is another neutral greige paint color that comes off as a medium-toned color outdoors. I love pairing this type of color with a muted blue, just like Sherwin Williams Faded Flaxflower.
Rockport Gray body color shown below:
Fieldstone + Iron Mountain
If you’re looking for a pretty gray exterior, Fieldstone by Benjamin Moore is the ticket. This paint color has a blue and green undertone and will lighten up to a very pale gray outside. I love pairing this color with a dark brown/black and Iron Mountain is the perfect accent color for this palette!
